Josee, the Tiger and the Fish 2020 | English Subbed

Josee, the Tiger and the Fish (2020) is an uplifting animated romantic drama directed by Kotaro Tamura and produced by Studio BONES, adapted from the short story by Seiko Tanabe. The narrative follows Tsuneo Suzukawa, an ambitious marine biology university student who juggles multiple part-time jobs to fund his dream of studying diving abroad in Mexico. His path takes an unexpected turn when he rescues Kumiko Yamamura—a talented, sharp-tongued young woman with cerebral palsy who insists on calling herself “Josee” after a character from Francoise Sagan’s novels—after her wheelchair spins out of control down a steep hill. Impressed by Tsuneo’s quick thinking, Josee’s protective grandmother hires him to be her live-in caretaker and companion. Initially clash-prone due to Josee’s prickly, guarded demeanor and sheltered worldview, their relationship evolves into a tender bond as Tsuneo encourages her to venture outside her confined room and experience the ocean, libraries, and city life firsthand. When an unforeseen accident shatters their respective plans and leaves both questioning their futures, the pair must lean on one another to overcome emotional despair, physical limitations, and societal barriers in pursuit of their creative passions and personal freedom.
