Description
Perfect Blue (1997) is a seminal psychological thriller anime film directed by Satoshi Kon and produced by Studio Madhouse, based on Yoshikazu Takeuchi’s novel. The story follows Mima Kirigoe, a member of the popular J-pop idol trio CHAM!, who makes the controversial decision to leave the music industry to pursue a career as a professional actress. As she struggles with the jarring transition and takes on increasingly provocative roles to shed her wholesome pop-idol persona, she discovers “Mima’s Room”—an anonymous, eerie online diary documenting her intimate daily movements in disturbing detail. Simultaneously, a menacing stalker known as Me-Mania tracks her every move, and violent murders begin targeting people involved in reshaping her new public image. Haunted by ghostly apparitions of her former idol self that accuse her of betrayal, Mima descends into a terrifying spiral where the boundaries between reality, stage acting, delusions, and paranoia shatter completely.
